A week of exploring and relaxing in Montenegro
By Mandy Brown
My husband and I have just had 6 magnificent days in this wonderful country. Staying just out of the bustling town of Kotor at Palazzo Radomiri in Drobota. A beautifully restored palazzo with a selection of accommodation from Seaview rooms and suites to apartments. This is a family owned and run hotel with family members often helping with drinks and dinner service. Although I'd have to say all the staff seem like part of the family, friendly, welcoming and always available to help. The hotel has a private jetty that transforms from a sun lounging area during the day to night time dining. The water is clear and deep and refreshing. If we weren't sightseeing we were swimming in the bay.
We were pleased we rented a car in Montenegro so we could journey out and explore the coastline and towns. We visited Tivat, which is a smallish San Tropez and Budva, which we just ended up driving straight through as it was so busy, the beaches were completely covered with people and the high rise hotels didn't help. We did spend a lunch gazing at the beautiful Aman Resorts Sveti Stefan, but we didn't stay to swim as one side of the bar that leads to the island you paid 50 euro for a front spot on the beach and on the private Aman beach you could spend 100 euro for a spot and be gazed at by the masses flocking to see this beautiful place. We just got back in the car and headed home to the Palazzo and out spot on the Jetty. We also visited the small village of Preast and paid for a boat ride across to the small island of Our Lady of the Rock.
The bay of Kotor is stunning and we could see why the cruise ships take turns coming in daily to visit. Hence the crowds in the township. But it felt good to still be in our lounges on the Jetty or in the water as the cruise ships departed this magical place.
