Katherine travelled to Greece with Trafalgar Tours and onto The Balkans.
Katherine at the Pantheon, Athens
Oct/Nov is a wonderful time to travel to Greece as the weather averages a balmy 20 deg and there are far less tourists around before the end of the summer season.
I recommend Trafalgar Tours for group travel with excellent guides, great inclusions and very comfortable 4-star hotels.
Aegina Fishing Village, Greece
“Best of Greece” offered a bit of everything and was great for a history buff like me with so many wonderful museums and famous archaeological sites to visit. We explored Athens by foot – so much to see here and I love the food! Over the Corinth Canal to the beautiful Peloponnese peninsula with pretty seaside towns, gorgeous beaches, castles, and ancient olive groves.
Meteora Monastery, Greece
Delfi and the monasteries shrouded in mist at Meteora were a highlight. You can also add a cruise onto this tour to include the iconic islands of Santorini and Mykonos to round off your classic Greek experience!
Skopje, North Macedonia
After this, a short flight took me to North Macedonia and the amazing city of Skopje with literally 100’s of statues and fountains dedicated to fallen heroes such as Philip II of Macedon & his son Alexander the Great.
Orthodox church, Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia
3 hours’ drive away nestled in the mountains is the UNESCO world heritage town of Ohrid on the deepest bluest lake in Europe bordering Albania. Archaeological finds indicate that Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements in all of Europe dating back to 350 BC! An intriguing mix of history over the years with a walled city, fortress, and 365 churches in varying states of repair!!
